Fun for the Whole Family at the March 15 Science and Engineering Fair and STEAM Expo

Families, students, and science enthusiasts of all ages are invited to explore, discover, and celebrate the wonders of science at the 39th Annual Mendocino County Science and Engineering Fair & STEAM Expo on Saturday, March 15, from 10 AM to 4 PM at Mendocino College. With interactive exhibits, hands-on activities, food trucks, and a chance to view student projects from 2:30 to 4 PM, this free event is all about fun, creativity, and curiosity. Whether you're a budding scientist or just love a good experiment, there's something for everyone.

Mendocino County Superintendent of Schools Nicole Glentzer said, “The Science Fair is a great way for families to have fun together through discovery. It’s exciting to see Mendocino County students experimenting, problem-solving, and sharing their ideas. The hands-on activities from our community partners make it an engaging event for all ages.”

Curious minds of all ages will find something to enjoy at the Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) Expo, where community partners will host hands-on activities, interactive booths, and live music. Participants include the Mendocino College Agricultural Department, California Conservation Corps, California Native Plant Society—Sanhedrin Chapter, California State Parks, City of Ukiah, Climate Action Mendocino, Girl Scouts Troop 10242, Instilling Goodness & Developing Virtue School, Mendocino County Museum, Mendocino County Fire Safe Council, North Coast Opportunities (NCO) Head Start, Redwood Collegiate Academy Robotics Team, Redwood Valley Calpella 4-H, Redwood Community Services, Sonoma Clean Power, South Ukiah Rotary, Willits Charter School, UC Hopland Research & Extension Center, Ukiah Unified School District, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Lake Mendocino, and more. This year’s STEAM Expo introduces a new professional development opportunity for expanded learning educators in Mendocino County, led by the Region One Expanded Learning Network. Educators can observe experienced professionals at Expo booths, gaining valuable insights on instruction, new approaches, and best practices to enhance their own programs. Participants will receive a free curriculum kit for their educational settings.

Experienced community judges will interview and score students who have entered Science and Engineering Fair projects on qualities including scientific method, content, clarity of presentation, and originality. The Awards Ceremony at 4:00 PM will honor outstanding projects and announce students qualified to advance to the California State Science and Engineering Fair.

This event is organized by the Mendocino County Office of Education and made possible through partner support with Mendocino College, community partners, and volunteers committed to inspiring the next generation of scientists and innovators.
