Resources
On July 12, 2023, the State Board of Education (SBE) adopted the Mathematics Framework for California Public Schools: Kindergarten Through Grade Twelve (Mathematics Framework). The framework is important guidance designed to help educators align classroom teaching with California’s rigorous math learning standards.
Resources
The State Board of Education adopted new Guidance for Local Instructional Materials Adoptions in March of 2024. This document supports local educational agencies (LEAs) throughout the instructional materials adoption process, including links to current legislation, sample timelines, support for student groups, and implementation considerations.

CISC Curriculum Adoption Tool Update
CISC Math Subcommittee has a work group that is presently drafting an adoption toolkit. The team is looking at Past Toolkits to inform creation of this Adoption Tool.
Phased Approach: a two-phase process that equally prioritizes studying the framework and reviewing/adopting materials. This ensures districts spend adequate time on vision building before moving to implementation.
Some possible components
- Facilitate Vision Building: Encourage districts to define what they want math learning to look like
- Evaluate Alignment: Compare current instructional materials and practices against the district's math vision
- Paper Screening Tool: using guidance from the California Math Framework
- Pilot/Professional Development reflections guide
