MCOE is kicking off a whole new level of support for TK-12 teachers implementing the Next Generation Science Standards. Please check out our flyer above! This summer we are hosting an Overnight Science Retreat for Teachers at the Mendocino Woodlands July 26th-27th to connect, network, learn and decompress together through nature.

The first 100 educators to register will be accepted and notified by July 1st. HERE is the registration link (also included on the flyer). The cost of registration is $100 payable through a check, district PO or personal payments are also welcome. Rustic overnight accommodations are in cabins hand-built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, complete with a balcony and fireplace.

This event includes breakfast, lunch, dinner & s'mores.

The retreat will include workshops on:

  • NGSS Best Practices
  • Inspiring Student Creativity and Curiosity Through Environmental Literacy
  • Service Learning & Green Ribbon Award Opportunities
  • Nature Journaling & Resources for schoolyard fieldwork
  • Outdoor Education Networking with Countywide Local Naturalists

Free time options include; hiking, river swim, yoga, ropes challenge course, nature journaling, evening bonfire and exploring the Woodlands.

This will be the initial kick off for a year round Science & Environmental Literacy CoP that is free and open to all TK-12 educators. There will also be a strand for administrators that meets quarterly. Keep an eye out for these opportunities in August.

Please join us in connecting classrooms and outdoor education opportunities across the county to foster students' joy and curiosity about nature.
