Learning and Enrichment

Computer Science/Programming

Support services are provided at schools and districts through professional development and coaching. MCOE also offers support by providing information to teachers, administrators and parents, as well as sharing resources. Our team is committed to providing all students equitable access to quality computer science education, and recognizes that schools throughout our county represent a diverse teacher and student population with a wide range of strengths and needs.

Ed Tech/Digital Literacy and Remote Learning/Online Learning

We provide training and individualized classroom follow-up support with coaching on technology and technology integration. All training and coaching is custom-designed in alignment with district and site goals and objectives. Our technology trainers/coaches bring to the classroom their own teaching and learning experiences with a personal touch to connect to teachers.

Leadership Development

We focus on providing training, coaching, and support to site and district level administrators. We help site and district level leaders get trained on the latest educational best practices and information. Our team is eager to provide schools or districts with support in systems thinking and tools to assist in their educational leadership development through training and/or 1:1 coaching.

Student Events: Mock Trial, Science Fair, Poets in the Schools, Young Authors' Faire, Get Arts in Schools Program (GASP)

The Mendocino County Office of Education sponsors and coordinates five countywide student enrichment programs. These academic events are designed to support, encourage, recognize, and promote student learning. Each event targets a different cadre of talented students. For teachers, these events encourage and motivate student learning as well as providing academic resources. Three student enrichment programs provide schools with direct funding for these activities: Poets in the Schools, Get Arts in the Schools (GASP), and Young Authors’ Faire.

Mock Trial

The County Mock Trial program is sponsored and coordinated by the Mendocino County Office of Education (MCOE). The Mock Trial program requires high school student team members to assume the roles of the attorneys and witnesses involved in a fictitious criminal trial that is based on an important issue currently facing America’s youth. Each team is linked with an attorney coach who helps student attorneys/witnesses prepare a defense pretrial motion argument, opening/closing statements, witness questioning/response, and general courtroom etiquette.

Science Fair

The Mendocino County Science Fair provides opportunities for students grade 3-12 to showcase their science projects on various topics ranging from life sciences, physical sciences, earth and space sciences, and engineering. The top ten projects from grades 6-12 have the opportunity to compete at the state level.

Student Programs: STEAM, Maker Space, Esports, Quest Boxes, etc.

Our Student Programs seek to combine the work of the California Standards with the STEAM mindset, student interests, innovation in education and an interdisciplinary approach to learning where academic concepts are taught through real-world lessons.
